In-House Counsel - Real Estate Attorney Position
Responsible for oversight of lease transactions from the time of the completion of the Letter of Intent through execution whether negotiating and drafting a lease or conforming lease on his/her own or working with outside counsel on stand alone or complex transactions extending through to negotiation of estoppels, SDNAs, amendments and abstracts and resolution of issues that may arise during the life of any lease.
Job Responsibility including but not limited to:
- Serves as liaison with outside counsel and internal Managers on leasing issues - Ability to negotiate/draft some leases, amendments, estoppels, SDNAs, lease abstracts, side letters - specifically conforming leases and commercial leases.
- Involved with all aspects of expansion including construction, leasing, finance and logistics.
- Actively facilitates the resolution of lease problems whether they are based in accounting issues due to interpretation of lease language, facilities issues based on operation by Landlord or any other problem that may arise.
- Partners with Lease Administration to manage lease portfolio in connection with co-tenancy audits, exercising kick-outs or options and renewals.
- Completes basic contract review as needed - Performs all other duties assigned
- Financial Accountability: Ensuring legal fees are controlled
Minimum Candidate Qualifications:
- College degree and J.D. from an accredited law school along with admission to the Missouri and Illinois bar.
- 3 to 5 years experience in leasing required. Retail leasing experience preferred but not required
- Skills, Abilities and Other Requirements
- Can state facts, law and legal arguments clearly and logically in written and oral form.
- Needs to be a business person as much as an attorney.
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
- Proficient in Word and Excel.
