On May 12, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal signed long-sought legislation to improve visibility of billboards by expanding control of vegetation (targeted view zone). "This is a major victory," said OAAA President and CEO Nancy Fletcher. "This progress is a tribute to persistence. Congratulations to all those who worked toward this goal for decades."

OAAA staff and member companies joined state officials at the American Association of State Highway & Transpor¬tation Officials (AASHTO) meeting in St. Louis, MO, last week. Numerous issues affecting outdoor advertising controls were on the agenda. Of significance, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) reported that its long-awaited traffic safety study is still undergoing internal review. No date has been set for release of the research report (it was originally due mid-2010).

Out of home advertising revenue rose 4.2 per¬cent in the first quarter of 2011 compared to the same period in 2010, accounting for nearly $1.4 billion. The increase in revenue signals steady positive year over year revenue growth since the second quarter of 2010.
